Beginners Sewing Course Level 2


SEWING COURSE FOR BEGINNERS (24HOUR course over the duration of 6 weeks)

Weekdays R3000.00 per course | Weekends R3250.00 per course

4 HOUR class once a week for 6 weeks

This course is created for people whom understand the basic methods and principals of garment construction already. If you are not a TOTAL beginner, you can start with this course after completing and passing the assessment form. In this course the attendees will create two garments, one created from woven fabric and the other one created from a knit fabric. We will equip you with the skills and language of essential sewing to enable you to understand and complete the above-mentioned garments.

In the sewing course for beginners, you will learn the following:

  1. The Theory of sewing
    • The difference between woven and knitted fabrics in garment construction; machine needles; zips; different kind of threads; what is fusible interfacing and how to use it; how to take the necessary measurements and find the correct pattern size; how to trace a particular size from a master pattern; the placing, pinning and cutting of pattern pieces onto fabric using grain lines and selvages; transfer of pattern markings; understanding and reading a commercial pattern; darts; faced neckline, pleats, and hemlines. Learn how to work with knits and how to use a double needle on stretch fabric. Learn how to create your own pattern from a foundation block.
  2. Practical Sample file
    • Dart.
    • Facing & Under-stitching.
    • Invisible zip.
    • Pleats.
    • Double needle stitched hemline.
  3. Create and construct: 
    • Wrap skirt or high-waisted flared trousers, (attendees have to choose one option)
    • T – Shirt, by creating your own pattern from a foundation block.


  • Fabric, zip & interfacing for the sewing samples.
  • Theory manual & A4 document wallet for storage.
  • Patternmaking ruler; 2 x bobbins; double needle & stretch needles, to the value of R380 (yours to keep)
  • The use of our Sewing Machines.
  • The use of our Skirt / Trouser Patterns.
  • 1m pattern paper for creating your t-shirt pattern.
  • 2m Polytrace for tracing your pattern.


  • Fabric, interfacing, zip, and thread for the skirt/trousers as well as fabric for the t-shirt the student will be making.
